Ron Denton is a proven supply chain operations executive with over 40 years of progressive responsibility, experience, and expertise in supply chain management operations for multiple diversified healthcare organizations. Ron formed “Ron Denton & Associates” (RDA) in mid-2013 as an independent supply chain consulting and contracted services company dedicated to providing proven supply chain solutions and reducing supply and purchased services costs for the healthcare industry.
Prior to forming RDA, Ron served as Vice President, OMSolutions Resource Management Services, a business unit of Owens & Minor, Inc. (O&M), a Fortune 500 company that is the leading national medical & surgical distributor and supply chain management company. In this role, Ron had national responsibility, accountability and management oversight for providing hospital based supply chain contracted services, resources and interim management to both distribution and non-distribution customers of O&M. OMSolutions’ Resource Management Services supported over 50 supply chain managed accounts with a combined total staff of 380+ FTEs, including 5 Regional Directors. Under Ron’s leadership and guidance, numerous operational improvements were made in the accounts to enhance customer value by establishing more consistency in daily operations and utilizing best of class supply chain practices. The Resource Management Service Line was successful by increasing its account business base and exceeding revenue and P&L financial targets/goals, enhancing operational and compliance outcomes, and delivering on service contract commitments.
Prior to working for O&M, Ron founded HealthCare Logistics Services (HLS) in January 1993. HLS was a successful, nationally recognized healthcare supply chain consulting and management services company. HLS provided supply chain consulting and management services to numerous healthcare systems, non-profit and for-profit hospitals, state and county hospitals and clinics, university hospitals, children's hospitals, rural hospitals, specialty hospitals, hospital management companies, healthcare management companies, other consulting firms, GPOs, medical & surgical supply distributors, and other healthcare related businesses.
HLS specialized in the assessment, redesign, and implementation of supply chain management programs to improve operational efficiencies and reduce unnecessary cost. HLS’ Contract Management and Value Analysis Team (VAT) Programs were very successful in helping clients reduce the cost of supplies and purchased services, typically generating over a 5:1 Return on Investment (ROI) in on-going cost savings per consulting fees. HLS documented VAT savings totaled over $235,000,000 for all engagements performed for its clients.
During the years HLS was in business, it provided services to over 300 clients, approximately 35% of whom engaged HLS for multiple assignments. HLS’ success in achieving savings and operational improvements was well-documented and validated by its clients. HLS was acquired by O&M in October 2004. Ron then served as the Vice President, Resource Management Services, which was a business unit of OMSolutions.
Ron also served in various other supply chain related positions in his career including Vice President for a large healthcare system, Director of Materials Management for several large hospitals, and as a Senior Medical Logistics Non-Commissioned Officer in numerous military hospital based logistics positions in the continental United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
